We've all been there. You see so many people around you who are in need, but you don't know how to help. The challenge feels so large that you think, what impact could my small actions possibly have?

We've all been there. You're faced with a challenge that feels so risky. Your heart is telling you to give it a try, but your rational mind is telling you to hold back. Failure is a real possibility.

This week, you're going to hear about these 2 topics from a woman who has devoted her career to giving back.

Anna Bregier is the Director of Marketing at Cookie Cart. This non-profit seeks to educate inner city kids about career and job skills, through the vehicle of a fully functioning bakery.

Anna shares with us her story, as well as the stories of 2 other inspiring women: Sister Jean, the founder of Cookie Cart, and Anna's mom.

Tanya Van Court is the founder and CEO of Goal Setter, an online platform that is revolutionizing the way we give gifts to kids. Using this platform, kids can set goals such as saving for a bike, attending a summer camp, or saving for college. When it comes time to give gifts, friends and family can contribute to those goals, instead of purchasing more consumer goods that the child may already have or may not want or use.

Tanya is an absolute inspiration and is paving the way for others. She is one of only 15 women of color to raise over $1 million in funding.

Her energy and passion is absolutely contagious, and I know you're going to love to meet Tanya Van Court!

Lori Imsdahl is a writer, travel-junkie, and graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. She served for five years as an Army officer, and while on active duty, she deployed to Afghanistan for fifteen months.

When Lori returned to her hometown of Minneapolis, she learned that the act of "travel" is a mindset (a mindset steeped in curiosity and a willingness to get outside one's comfort zone), rather than a movement to a geographical destination. She believes you do not need to spend thousands of dollars and fly thousands of miles to travel. Rather, travel can happen every day in your own community, anytime you visit a neighborhood you don't normally visit or talk to a person you don't normally talk to.

Leslie Forde enjoys a full-time career in marketing. She also advocates self-care for Moms from her website, Mom's Hierarchy of Needs. Leslie's blog began when she had a conversation about how a Mom's hierarchy of needs is very different than the typical hierarchy of needs. Mom's spend so much time focusing on the needs of others, and we sacrifice ourselves in the process. We talk about this and so much more in her interview.

If you are a busy Mom who is looking for a path toward sanity, self-care, and balance, THIS is the interview for you!

This week, you are going to meet Shayla, a self-proclaimed nomad. You know that old question “What would you do if you had a million dollars?” Well not one thing would change for her, and that’s exactly the way she wants it. She has very consciously created her life to be exactly as it is.

Shayla travels full-time, working and living wherever she goes, making videos along the way to tell stories about what she experiences. She doesn’t have a bucket list that she’s racing though life to complete, but instead she wants to get to know a place and feel it’s heartbeat, and that always starts with the people. She believes that you don’t get a feel for the people and the place when you just pass through and check Instagram photo ops off your list. You get a feel for the people and place when you work with them, go out with them, meet their families.

Gerda Weissmann Klein is a humanitarian, author, human rights activist, Holocaust survivor and proud naturalized citizen.

Gerda Weissmann was born May 8, 1924 in Bielsko, Poland. In 1939 her life changed forever when German troops invaded her hometown of Bielsko. From 1939 until the end of World War II she lived in fear and deprivation. After being separated from her brother shortly after the invasion and from her parents in 1942, she worked in slave labor and concentration camps until she was forced to walk in a 350-mile death march. She never lost the will to live. When World War II ended in 1945, Gerda was left homeless and without family or friends. Despite all that was lost, she found a fairy-tale ending when she married her liberator, U.S. Army Intelligence officer, Kurt Klein. Two years after she immigrated to the United States as Kurt’s wife, Gerda became an American citizen.

For more than six decades, Gerda Klein has captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful message of hope, inspiration, love and humanity. In her speeches and books she draws from her wealth of life experiences – from surviving the Holocaust and meeting her future husband on the day of her liberation, to her journey to the United States where she raised her family and has fought to promote tolerance and combat hunger.

The story of Gerda and Kurt’s meeting and their life together is documented in her autobiography, All But My Life, which has been in print for 53 years, in 62 editions and has been read by countless students around the world.

All But My Life is the foundation for the documentary film, “One Survivor Remembers” which was produced by Home Box Office (HBO) and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM). The film won the 1995 Academy Award for Documentary Short Subject and the 1994-95 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Information Special. In 1998, a public nonprofit foundation, the Gerda and Kurt Klein Foundation, was established to honor the Kleins’ mission to promote tolerance and community service through the creation of two nationally recognized educational programs.

On November 17, 2010 President Obama named Gerda Klein, as well as 14 other incredible individuals, as recipients of the 2010 Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Dr. Ashley Smith is a clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders. She spends her time providing therapy and training other professionals. Her first book, Childhood Anxiety Disorders, is coming out in April. After working at a nationally recognized specialty center for years, she is branching out on her own by starting a private practice. She helps individuals learn to embrace uncertainty, face their fears, and lead a life that is not ruled by anxiety.

Ashley is also legally blind. With a rare untreatable retinal disease, Ashley knows what it's like to face uncertainty. Despite doctors predicting the contrary, her vision has worsened significantly in recent years making daily activities she used to take for granted--like driving, reading books, and recognizing people across the room--impossible. As her vision has declined, she has had to learn to adapt. She will readily admit that living with a disability is a scary struggle, but she strives to keep it from defining her or holding her back. Those professional skills definitely come in handy after hours! Keep an eye out (pun intended) for her blog A Blind Quest for Happiness, which she hopes to launch later this year.

Ashley grew up in Arkansas, went to graduate school in Nebraska, and now lives in Kansas City. She enjoys ballroom and swing dancing (and has a few amateur comps under belt), reading (thank you adaptive technology!), and traveling. She thrives on new experiences and believes that boredom is the antithesis of happiness.

Meredith is an alternative investment consultant, one of Inc.com’s 17 inspiring women to watch in 2017, and author of Women of The Street: Why Female Money Managers Generate Higher Returns (And How You Can Too), which won an Axiom Award Gold Medal in 2016. She began her alternative investment career as the Director of Research at Van Hedge Fund Advisors International where she was responsible for manager selection, due diligence, index construction and aggregate industry research for the $500 million fund of funds.

Meredith was then recruited by hedge fund analytics provider PerTrac Financial Solutions. Her research on emerging managers, initiated in 2006, and women and minority-owned funds created new investment categories. It has changed the way investors and money managers behave - both in the way investors allocate and how money managers market to and seek investors.

Meredith served as Director of the Rothstein Kass Institute, an Alternative Investment Think Tank at the professional services firm Rothstein Kass (RKCO). There she created the first Women in Alternative Investments Hedge Fund Index to measure performance of female hedge fund and private equity managers.

Meredith is a foodie and wine lover and maintains a love of charcoal and open flames when it comes to her own cooking. She is a figure skater and skates weekly, relying on an inexplicable addiction to decaffeinated coffee for her early morning ice times.
